"I'm sorry, but I can't patch you through to insert name of busy IT person here. I'm not allowed to do so. It's a good thing, really. After all, the more time so-and-so spend giving people status-updates, the less time they have to fix your problem."
"Well that's just not acceptable! I demand you patch me through right away or call right now to tell them to prioritize my problem! I can't be expected to work like this!"
"I'm sorry, I really can't do that. I'm sure that they're working as hard as they can to fix your problem, but they have a lot on their plate."
"Do you even know who I am? I am the upper-hubbub of importantness! I am the head of the big-headedness-commission! I have to get my own laptop back right away! The one I got instead is grey instead of black and I hate it!"
Now I have an unending supply of patience while on the phone. I'll spend ages explaining things to people again and again and again and another time, even if I want to suggest that they might want to go back to preschool, because they obviously need to learn how to read. I'll be perfectly polite and courteous while someone yells at me and curses me out. This is the moment that patience ends.
I have a huge allergy for people using their position to get their way. I honestly don't care if you're the CEO of the company I work for, the cleaning lady or the queen of England herself. I treat everyone with the same attitude and respect. The only reason this has never gotten me in trouble is because I treat everyone with a LOT of respect.
So yes, these people get under my skin. A lot. Don't get me wrong, I will stay perfectly polite the entire call, but all my willingness to help is suddenly gone. As a matter of fact, even if I had been willing to call/email/chat with so-and-so over the status, there is no way I will do so now. They get to wait, just like the rest of us plebs. A problem? Well, you're perfectly welcome to file a complaint... Oh, and have a nice day!
